From the Pastor

This weekend our Holy Father declared a year of dedication to St. Paul in preparation for the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the Apostle’s birth.  St. Paul was born in Tarsus, in what is now Turkey, at the start of the Christian era, about 10 A.D., according to church historians. After his conversion on the road to Damascus, he became one of the church's foremost evangelizers, first among Jews, then among Gentiles.

How appropriate that I should take this time to write my final words of encouragement to you on such an auspicious occasion.  Words are inadequate in times like these.  Goodbye does not nearly convey the memories, the lessons, the joys and sufferings that accompany the privilege of being a part of this community of believers.

A community is as good as its members and those in our midst who find in us a place of welcome.  If I claim any boast of my time here, it would be in the many new families with which we have been blessed who help make our community complete.  And those new families would not be a part of our community had it not been for the many who were here long before I,  who have joyfully proclaimed what good things Annunciation has in store.  As you have heard me say, time and time again, there are many more families out there waiting for us to reach out and invite them to consider making Annunciation their home.

Paul’s evangelistic zeal is celebrated by our church because it is precisely in his example that we are called to be zealous for the faith!  Take this year of preparation our Holy Father has called for, seriously.  “The church is, by its nature, missionary; its primary task is evangelization," the Pope reminds us.  Be a missionary for the faith.  Invite others to come and discover what Good News resides here.

Please pray for me in my new assignment.  Know that as you have been from the day it was announced I would be your pastor - you will continue long after I am gone to be part of my prayers!                   Pax et bonum!
